My PhD is in Public History with a declared focus on nineteenth-century American history and an emphasis on the emergence of the American nation-state between the Civil War Era and World War I. The “public” portion of my program centered on the considerable influence public history has had on American society and culture with an interdisciplinary concentration on digital history. In many ways, digital history has become the vanguard of social and cultural history as scholars use digital research to supplement written records when the histories of minority groups, like African Americans, Native Americans, and the disabled, have been lost or deliberately omitted.
